Eat Your Garlic!

Let food be thy medicine and thy medicine by the food. - Hippocrates
These are words to live by. In fact when our kitchen is finally repainted, I hope to have someone artfully write those words across the wall by the table.  Garlic is a powerful medicine and delicious food. It has healed me of mastitis and both my husband and I of incredibly sore throats and colds.

Garlic is a powerful, natural antibiotic - and it doesn't kill off our healthy bacteria like drug antibiotics do. Unlike chemical antibiotics, garlic is also an effective antiviral and antifungal - and taking just a few cloves of garlic each day can really speed infections away.
The catch is, garlic must be eaten raw to receive its powerful benefits. Now, Michael and I love raw garlic. Its spicy and potent. Is it an aphrodisiac? Maybe for us... But for the average person chewing up cloves of raw garlic for fun just isn't. So here are our Flick favorite ways of eating our raw garlic and healing our bodies of most everything that ails.


Spicy Guacamole
2 Avocados
4 Cloves of chopped and crushed up raw garlic
Lime Juice
A generous dash of Celtic Salt with vital minerals

Chop and mash everything together, season liberally with salt and lime. You can certainly add cumin, cayenne, chopped onion or jalepeno but in our experience this ratio provides a wonderful smooth taste. The avocado is allowed to shine and the garlic adds a pop of heat. We eat it with organic corn chips and practically fight over the last dip.

With golden heirloom tomato.
Fresh Bruscetta
Baguette
Fresh mozzarella (we recently made our own from raw milk, very tasty indeed)
Chopped Raw Garlic
Sliced Tomato
Basil
Olive Oil
Balsamic vinegar

Slice your baguette, drizzle some balsamic and olive oil, season with salt and pepper. Toast it up, add your garlic, about half a clove per slice of baguette, hide the tasty medicine with tomato and cheese. Bon apetite!

When I'm really feeling sick I just grab chunks of bread and load as much chopped garlic in as a I can handle, sometimes eating 4 cloves with just a slice or 2 of bread. It may take some getting used to but raw garlic is my best remedy for mastitis.

Honey Garlic Bread
Baguette
Butter
Raw Honey
Chopped Raw Garlic

This version may work better with little ones but to be honest, I haven't been able to get any of mine to eat raw garlic. Toast up your bread with copious amounts of pastured butter and add your garlic, cover in raw honey, and chew it up! Some do this with just honey and garlic on a spoon. I personally prefer the more savory adaptations to consuming garlic rather than sweet.
